The Reunited Soldiery Monument was placed here by Union and Confederate Veterans in 1889. It is one of the first Civil War Monuments dedicated to the soldiers of both armies to be placed on any Battlefield in the United States.

Carved in front:

ANGEL ALOFT
Spirit of eternal light
Keep silent vigil o'er the brave
The untarnished blue
The unsullied gray
In peace and love unite
Proud heroes have fallen
And over their grave
Our hearts are united
Our country to save
Over the dead the living bend
And up to their God their voices sen
That in Liberty's crown or Eternity's day
He may place as fair Jewels
The Blue and the Gray
A United Soldiery
The Blue
The Gray

One side:
Gray
Major General E. Van Dorn
Commander of the Army of the Southwest

Other side:
Blue
Major General S.R. Curtis
Commander of the Army of the Southwest

It is one of 2 Monuments that are placed in Pea Ridge Battlefield near Elkhorn Tavern.
They are the only 2 Monuments on the Battlefield.

This is on one of my favorite tours of this area.
The Trail of Tears and Telegraph (Old Wire) road also went right past this point the Elkhorn Tavern was used for many purposes it was well known as a stop for the Underland Stage. Although the Butterfield Stage passed by on the Telegraph Road the Elkhorn Tavern was not an official stop on the Butterfield line.

This is but a bit of the History you will find here.

As always have fun be safe and
