~ text from the monument ~
This flag pole and eagle memorial is being dedicated this 4th day of July 2003 in the name of Glen Pilkington who was held as a Prisoner of War for more than 43 months during World War II. In addition, the dedication extends to all past present and future Prisoners of War or Missing in Action. Further, it is dedicated to all men and women who served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. People and businesses of the area provided funds for this project. The Hamilton Community Development Coalition and Hamilton Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5256 developed this project.

On the back of the monument is a list of former Prisoners of War from Hancock County Illinois.
