The Hanover Historic District, encompassing approximately 885 acres, is located within Hanover Borough, which is the second-largest community in York County, Pennsylvania.
In the Hanover Historic District five major thoroughfares, Baltimore Street, Broadway Street, Carlisle Street, Frederick Street and York Street intersect in the heart of the Historic District.
The majority of the contributing buildings are residences, but there are also some commercial and industrial buildings. Industrial, commercial and railroad-related buildings are located along the railroad tracks in the nothern half of the Historic District.
