The brown-shingle building, originally known as "the Ark" fronts Hearst Street at Euclid Avenue. It was designed by John Galen Howard, one of the original UC Berkeley campus planners and expanded in 1908. The building is stepped up the hillside and features a quiet interior courtyard to the south.
"The Ark" originally housed the Architecture school (now at Wurster Hall on the south side of campus) and currently is home to the School of Journalism.
