The area the park is in is Binghampton National Historic Landscape which is what remains of a thriving farming community settled in 1875 and active till the 1960s when Tucson grew around it. The National Historic designation saved what was left of the farm land and it now is filled with people enjoying the area and learning about the history of the land.
It's next to the Rillito Riverwalk which brings in bicyclists and walkers to rest on the benches, dog owners to use the dog park and children to enjoy the splash park, a real plus on hot Arizona days.
