This bronze statue of Peter the Great, tsar of Russia 1682-1725, stands on a granite pedestal in an opening at the intersection of the Marly and Monplaisir Avenues in the lower garden at Peterhof, the palace he designed. It was cast in 1884 from a design by Mark Antokolsky.
Peter leans back on his walking stick and strikes a noble pose for the hordes of admiring tourists who pass by.
