This is one of the ruins of the Hohokam Indian Nation that lived on the Perry Mesa. They lived here from 1200AD to 1400AD. Most of these ruins underwent archeological studies by several Universities and organizations in the mid 1900s. This particular spot is just South East of another ruin in the same vicinity. There are another 8 ruins near this canyon.
To get to the area, you must enter the Aqua Fria National Monument and use the dirt roads. 4-wheel drive is highly recommended.
It is difficult to travel to this area by vehicle, and is a long walk from the road if you decide to not drive. The road leading to the area is not used very often and can be difficult to follow. We recommend using a small 4-wheeler vehicle. If you walk, bring plenty of provisions as the walk can take a while. There is parking near this site.
It can be difficult to spot from a distance because of the overgrowth and most of the walls have been destroyed. From a distance, the area looks like a pile of stones. It is unknown why the walls were torn down so long ago, but you can still see some of the lower portions of walls still remaining.
There is a small sign marking the spot. Some of the ruins have small marker posts, but they are brown and can sometimes be difficult to spot.
The photos I uploaded all have names that correspond to the direction I was facing when taking the photos.
