The Sheaf Fountain issues from a rocky pedestal in the center of a small pool in the gardens in front of the Monplaisir Palace, located on the waterfront at Peterhof.
The fountain features a vertical jet surrounded by two tiers of parabolic jets. This gives the effect of a sheaf shedding its grain. The fountain was first installed in 1723. Later in the century the pool was widened and deepened and the pedestal redesigned. The area was badly damaged during World War II but was restored by 1952.
