The Masonic Temple has a very interesting history. The lodge that stands now was built in 1877. It is actually the second lodge that has stood on this spot.

The first temple was burned by General Sherman's troops. Some of the Union soldiers were Masons and afterwards realized what they had done! In response to this a large sum of money was sent to rebuild the lodge which stands today. During the flood of 1886 the lodge had seven feet of water flooding the lower level.
