Originally built as a large red brick house in 1902, the Church of England eventually decided that the house was too large for this tiny parish, and it was let to Bernard and Charlotte Shaw from November 1906. They bought it outright in 1920, paying £6,220 for the house and its land. The Shaws did little to change the house. In the garden is the revolving hut where the playwright wrote. The rooms are little changed from when Shaw died in 1950.
Shaw's Corner is only their country residence. They kept a residence in London at 29 Fitzroy Square. For a socialist, Shaw kept a Rolls Royce and a Landchester cars.
Shaw died here and his ashes were mixed together with Charlotte's, before being scattered in the garden.
The parking area is the old vegetable garden, about 50 metres west.
