This brick house was built in 1857 for William Tanner, prominent Aurora hardware merchant. The 17-room house is in an Italianate style and features an octagonal cupola. The Tanner family owned the home until 1936, when it was donated to the Aurora Historical Society. The Society operates the house as a museum and is furnished in period furniture. The museum is open May - December, Mondays and Saturdays 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Admission is: Adults, $3.00, Students & Seniors, $1.50.
The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
