Inuksuit (plural of inuksuk) vary in shape and size and perform a variety of tasks. It is a symbol with deep roots in the Inuit culture, a directional marker that signifies safety, hope and friendship. Inuksuit are used as a symbol of hospitality throughout the Northwest, from Seattle to Alaska, because of the Inuit heritage here. This Inuksuk was placed in Wild Berry Park to welcome visitors to Alaska.
Inuksuks can take many similar forms; this one would be called an inunnguaq, meaning imitation of a person. Innunguat differ from the more common traditional inuksuit in the placement of two stone columns, reprsenting legs, at the base.
