La mezquita de Almonaster la Real es un ejemplo, muy bien conservado, de como debieron ser las mezquitas en el ámbito rural de al-Andalus, de las que apenas quedan testimonios. Su construcción se data en torno al año 900, sobre una anterior basílica visigoda. Fue declarada Monumento Nacional en 1931.

Su planta es cuadrangular, algo irregular, y está dividida en cinco naves separadas por arcos de herradura apoyados en columnas y capiteles de diferentes épocas, tanto procedentes de construcciones romanas como visigodas anteriores. La construcción está basada en mampostería y ladrillo, con algunos sillares. Tras la reconquista cristiana se añadió el ábside y se modificó la orientación del edificio de acuerdo al cánon cristiano este-oeste, siendo consagrada como capilla de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción. En siglos posteriores sufrió diferentes modificaciones como la conversión del alminar en campanario, adición del chapitel o la reconversión del patio de abluciones en plaza de toros. En la actualidad ha pasado a ser un centro cultural que sirve como núcleo de la celebración de las Jornadas de Cultura Islámica.

The mosque of Almonaster the Real one is an example, conserved, of as they had to be the mosques in the rural scope of al-Andalus, of very well which as soon as they are left testimonies. Its construction is dated around year 900, on a previous basilica visigoda. National Monument in 1931 was declared.

Its plant is quadrangular, something irregular, and is divided in five separated ships by arcs of horseshoe supported in columns and capitals of different times, as much originating of previous roman and visigotic buildings. The construction is based on rubblework and brick, with some masonry stones. After it reconquers Christian added the apse to it and the direction of the building according to East-West, being consecrated like chapel of "Nuestra Señora de la Concepción". In later centuries it underwent different modifications like the conversion from alminar in bell tower, addition of chapitel or the reconversion of sahn (for ablutions) in bullring. At the present time it has happened to be a cultural center that serves like nucleus of the celebration of the Days of Islamic Culture.
