A fine example of a lime kiln with ramp to load raw materials in to hopper on top. Nearby limestone outcrop providing necessary rock for construction and raw materials. The coal was mined in the valley. The coal was of poor quality and mainly locally, until the railway came and better quality coal was used. Hopper bowl was lined with sandstone.
Interpretative sign in fire hole, and grate across hopper to stop people falling through hole.
