National Trail Local Schools -home of the "Trailblazers" is situated along Oxford-Gettysburg Rd. in Preble County, Ohio in such a way that Rt. 40 can be seen to the north and Interstate Rt. 70- can be seen to the south of the school.
Currently, the building houses K-12. A typical graduating class consists of about 90 students. FFA is integrated throughout the curriculum- which makes sense since the outlying land once was home to family farms.
At one time - from 1968-1998 there was only the high school on this lot with the middle school in the nearby town of Eldorado (L-do-ray-doe)and the elementary in nearby New Paris. In the late '90's 2 building wings were added to the existing high school to make the current building complex you see now.
Up until the late 1990's the school district was called C.R. Coblentz Schools after a beloved superintendent. Yet-the high school was always known as National Trail High School because of its close proximity to the National Road. The district dropped the C.R. Coblentz name in favor of the unified and less confusing National Trail Local Schools upon completion of the K-12 complex.
It is not uncommon to see TV news networks announce that National Trails will be delayed or closed due to weather. Newscasters don't seem to remember that there was only one "National Trail."
Students take pride in learning about the National Road.
The school district was formed out of a consolidation of 3 township schools in northwestern Preble County - Jackson, Jefferson, and Monroe Townships. The school district is located in Ohio and butts up against the Indiana border with Richmond, Indiana being the nearby city.
