Het enige Vlaamse circuit heeft zijn roots in de jaren 50 en beleefde tal van historische mijlpalen. Zowat alle motorsportdisciplines zijn de revue gepasseerd (en passeren nog steeds), met als hoogtepunten onder andere de Grote Prijzen Formule 1. In 2002 was het circuit ook het toneel voor de WK's op de weg en in het veld. In 2007 werd er ook een manche gereden van het inmiddels opgedoekte Champcar.
Op 8 mei 1982 was het ook op Zolder dat de Canadees Gilles Villeneuve verongelukte.

The only race track on Flemmish soil finds its roots in the late 50’s and was the scene for multiple milestones ever since. The entire range of motorsports found it’s way to Circuit Zolder - and they still do to date - with the absolute higlights being the multiple Formula 1 GP’s. In 2002 the circuit was the place to be for the World Championships cycling and cyclo-cross. In 2007 it also hosted a race in the ChampCar-championship.
And we all remember 8 may 1982 when Gilles Villeneuve died on the track while qualifying for the race.
