The Pate Courthouse Annex was built in 1991 after a very contreversally Primary courthouse was erected next to the Historical Courthouse in Brunswick. The exsisting courthouse proved to be far to small to house the budding Brunswick community and funds for an annx had to be apporoved only 10 years after construction finished on the new courthouse. The annex itself was plagued with problems during construction and the contractor in charge of construction went into bankruptcy before the roof could be complete and Brunswick County had to pay an additional $55,000 dollars to finish the roof.
The annex houses 2 courtrooms and a variety of professional and county offices.
