The Church of the Transfiguration stands apart from the centrally located cluster of churches around the Cathedral of the Assumption in the huge Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. It is connected to the lakeside walls of the compound and the water-front gate passes through the ground level of the structure.
Built in 1595, it displays typical architecture of the period with three domes and scalloped gables around the sides of the building. In 1924 this church became part of the Kirillov-Belozersky Museum of History, Art, and Architecture.
Cruise ship tours usually visit this site and use the water front gate to have a view of the exterior walls of the compound.
