Sedgwick is split by the Lancaster Canal. The main west coast railway is to the east, and the River Kent to the west. A grand house stands by the village, although it has now been turned into flats.

There are no services like a post office, shop or pub in the village, however, the village hall is busy with various groups throughout the week. The villagers have held a successful scarecrow festival in 2007.

A farm on the outskirts has a maize maze during the summer.

To provide another facility in the village it was decided to create a playground. The first step was to purchase part of a field behind the village hall. This was a millennium project. Since then, further fund raising has enabled the village to install a series of playground equipment and picnic benches.

The playground is known as the Millennium Field.
