The Nature Center for the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Gardens has a relatively small public area with one teaching room and a gift shop area. But they cover a lot in such a small area.

In the teaching area, the children are invited to explore and learn about the things they will see on the hiking trails. The topic range from the trees and plants to the bugs and animals. There are even some live animals to allow the kids a close up view.

We arrived during Mid-February and Mid-March when their main topic of discussion is... Maple Syrup!

We learned how to identify sugar maples, how to tap the tree, and even got to taste some sap right out of the tree. Then under a shelter, some sap was being cooked into syrup and then got to taste some that was already made. Yum-Yum!

Although the Nature Center is open from 10 to 4 from Tuesday through Saturday, it opens later at 1:00 p.m. on Sundays and closed on Monday's. The Gardens are open every day from sunrise to sunset.

Visitors should visit the Nature Center and post a photo of themselves (or GPS unit) either inside or outside of the nature center visited. Logs without photos WILL be allowed if a lenghty description of one's visit and a mention of what they learned is included.
