This benchmark is cut into the granite post of this unusual fingerpost. I feel that the people who erected the post possibly used granite to save having to replace wooden posts. The wooden post would have rotted within a relatively short time in the damp of Bodmin Moor. Lucky for the Ordnance Surveyors as the granite gave them somewhere to put their benchmark.
