The Crook County Bank building was built in 1910 of basalt blocks from a local quarry located just west of the Ochoco Viewpoint, a mile to the west. The bank opened in 1911 and the building held three different banks (Crook County Bank, Bank of Prineville, and Prineville National Bank). In 1935, A.R. Bowman purchased the building for his title and loan business and later for his insurance business. The Bowman Family donated the building to Crook County for use as a museum in 1971. The A.R. Bowman Memorial Museum was opened later that year by the Crook County Historical Society which was chartered in 1969.
