A full time Artist, Rich James truly loves all aspects of Art & Graphic Design and has worked in a wide variety of mediums: sculpture, mosaics, glass blowing, "lost wax casting" (jewelry making), lapidary, silk screening, photography, mixed media collage, and painting in acrylics, watercolor and oils. Born in San Diego, Rich later migrated to Northern California where he studied Art, Graphic Design and Photography at Chico State University earning a BA degree in Graphic Communications.
Over the past 7 years Rich has mentored the development of community murals. Over 200 people have participated in creating these collective masterpieces. "This is a magical process where each individual, young or old, paints their individual square of the grid which makes up the whole."
The quest for inspirational tropical paradise has lead Rich to Hawaii, the South Pacific, Asia, Mexico, Jamaica, and Central America. Easily seen in Rich's work are seascapes, tropical fruit, fauna, colorful birds, dolphins and other wildlife. "I just love to paint! I appreciate most aspects of Art and admire everything from primitive to contemporary art, from Norman Rockwell to Jackson Pollack, it's all good. Art, you just do it! The action has magic, grace and power."
