Perhaps 15 or so minutes from the freeway and tucked into what was an out of the way place... but no longer. Kind of...

A resting place of early Healdsburg residents with Portuguese, Italian and other non Native settlers. There is some monumental architecture and many smaller hand incised markers.

It still has internments.

A fascinating family plot exists there...

The plot of one of the namesake founders of Healdsburg has six stones, broken at the bases, and laying side by side.

Standing at the founders feet (N 38_36.986 W122_51.570) and looking left, are the stones (and I assume the remains) of his wife and son.

On the right side are the stones of his concubine.
I kid you not. It says so right on the stone.
Next to her are their two sons.

The markers come way before the sandblast/template lettering era for the most part, with lots of incised lettering on the stones that may be more readable as a rubbing than as a viewing.

There is some sculpture, but not as much as you would find in a larger cemetery in an urban area.
But there is some.

There are also quite a few wooden markers that are in fairly good condition tucked out of the suns direct daily light.

If you make your way here I hope you find it as interesting as I do, and that it also brings you a bit of the same feeling of peace that I have when I visit.

Peace
