The British steamer Anastasi was en route to the Port of Barrow and then to Kilkeel in Northern Ireland, when she ran aground on Christmas day 1946,there are no records of any of the crew being lost.
The Anastasi is a 283 ton British Steamer built on the Clyde by Scott and Sons of bowling Scotland.
The wreck lies half a mile out to see off the shore of Walney Island and can be just made out on a very clear day,as only the top few feet are above the sands, the ship is gradually sinking beneath the sand and at the moment lies in a seawater filled crater which has been made by the weight of the ship over the years, the wreck lies half a mile off shore from the beach of Walney Island.
The nearest parking would be 2 miles to the South near the caravan park of Earns Bay.
