Old St. Elizabeth Hospital - Baker City, OR - U.S. National Register of Historic Places on Waymarking.com

The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia established the St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1897 at the request of Archbishop William Gross. The initial hospital was located at the corner of Second and Church streets in a renovated building. In 1912 construction was begun on Fourth Street for a four floor, 115-bed facility which was completed in 1915. The Old St. Elizabeth Hospital served Baker City until October 1970 when the hospital moved into a new building. The old hospital building then served as the St. Elizabeth Nursing Home until May 1987 when the nursing home moved into a new building adjacent to the current hospital. The building is today named the St. Elizabeth Towers and is an apartment and condominium complex.
