Fire Station #1 was constructed in 1949 and is located at 9609 Lee Blvd. The station was built by Kroh Brothers on land they donated. Construction of the station cost $19,245 which was financed through the first bond issue in the City. Since it was initially constructed with two apparatus bays, two additional bays have been added, one on either side of the original building. Other changes over the years include an emergency generator and vehicle exhaust removal system. In addition, the living quarters have been updated to include a new training room, kitchen, exercise room, and individual sleeping quarters. On August 19, 2002, Mayor Peggy Dunn issued a proclamation declaring Fire Station #1 an historic structure. A Captain and three (3) firefighters are currently assigned to Station #1 to staff Engine 31.
