The Blue Hole - National Key Deer Refuge - The Great Florida Birding Trail on Waymarking.com

Central on Big Pine Key is an old quarry, filled with freshwater, and home to a diverse array of wildlife— the Blue Hole. The Blue Hole has visitor facilities including an interpretive kiosk, staffed by volunteers, and an observation platform. It is a popular look-out spot for visitors to Big Pine Key.

I've seen Pie-billed Grebe, Blue-gray gnatcatchers, Great Egrets, Blue Herons (but not the rare white-morph that tends to prefer the salt water bays nearby), and even a Green Macaw (domesticated, with his caretaker). Alligators and Key Deer are often seen at the Blue Hole too.

From US 1, turn north onto Key Deer Blvd and follow about 3 miles until you see the sign for the parking lot. The viewing platform is a short walk from the lot.
