The center contains specimens of some of the rare and endangered animals that are easily seen on the refuge, including a Key Deer fawn, a huge crocodile, and the white-morph of the Great Blue Heron. The refuge just celebrated their 50th anniversary in Dec 2007, which is a wonderful success story of restoring the Key Deer from a population low of 27 animals to over 800 in fifty years.
Death from car accidents is the #1 killer for Key Deer, so please drive very carefully when visiting this unique refuge!
