Long Description:
Swarthmoor Meeting House was originally a barn and a cottage called Petty's and was bought for £72 in 1687 from two of Judge Fell's daughters. George immediately gifted it to the Religious Society of Friends, who recorded the gift in Yearly Meeting of 1691 as 'A new meeting house at Swarthmoor.' Above the door is an inscription.
Ex bono G.F. 1688

As with most meeting houses of that age, the windows are all on the south side. George Fox gave instructions as how it might be converted. Although it has been altered over the years it retains much of the original charm. The adjoining stables have been made into an attractive community used meeting room, The Quaker Barn. Another survivor is the horse mounting block in the garden.

The delay between purchase, gifting and use is because Fox insisted Friends continue to meet in the original room in Swarthmoor Hall since 1652.
Keys are available from the warden at 4 Rakehead Cottages, nearby. There was a burial ground, which has been landscaped.
