The original church of St.Peters was built in 1875 to help meet the needs of the growing numbers moving into the area to work in the local iron mines,hence the original church building being made of iron,this was replaced in 1884 by the present stone built church.
The mines are are all closed and the ancient village is mainly agricultural,the village green which is in the centre of the village is a former tarn which was filled in with spoil from the mines.
