As the education branch of Jefferson County Open Space, the Lookout Mountain Nature Center’s mission is to “Create awareness, understanding, and conservation through year-round educational programs and exhibits.” To help fulfill this mission, the staff and volunteers at Lookout Mountain provide a wide variety of free programs for all ages both at the Nature Center and out at Open Space parks.
Public programs include:
*Astronomy Programs at the Pine Valley Ranch observatory and in the parks
*Year round flora, fauna, full moon, and sensory naturalist-guided hikes
*Drop-in informational programs at the parks on a variety of topics including Migratory Birds, Rattlesnakes, Bears, Elk, Colorado Wildcats and much more
*Evening Storytelling
*And expert lectures on everything from the NASA space program to Mountain Lions to Wolves.
Additionally, the Nature Center’s monthly Toddler Times programs, for ages 2 to 5 with an adult, change themes each month and are a great way to get young ones started learning about nature.
Lookout Mountain Nature Center also provides free nature-themed programs for groups of 5 or more. These programs are aligned with state education standards, are designed for pre-K through high school, and are great for school, home school, day-care, and scout groups.
