Justin K. of Troop 1478, Michigami District, Detroit Area Council, organized and conducted a major clean up effort in a nearby park and adjacent school property.
As a cross country runner for his high school, Justin noted that some of the trails they used for practice were in a sad state of repair. The trails are located in a nature center adjacent to both a highschool and an elementary school. Justin contacted the schools and city to make arrangements for the project.
In addition to clearing the trails, the work crew cleared a tremendous amount of overgrowth from the perimeter fencing. This overgrowth had been there long enough that trees were growing through the chain link fence. All of the debris was removed and prepped for composting or recycling.
Justin was joined by fifty volunteers who worked from 8:00 am till 4:00 pm to accompish the bulk of the work in one day. Donations from local businesses provided both tools and refreshments for the workers.
This was Justin's last hurdle on the road to Eagle Scout. He has scheduled his Scoutmaster's Conference and will soon be waiting for his borad of review.
