They appear to be grotesque heads protruding from the walls with the water spouts coming out of their mouths. The oldest part of the church dates from the 12th century with the tower being 15th century. The gargoyles are almost amphibian, like frogs springing out of the stonework. There is also a horse-like gargoyle round the side of the church which is a surprise as you encounter it above the guttering.
