Not just one, but a pair of doors in an old residential street in Kendal. Not grand or leading to an important building, these doors are an attractive design and are not all they seem.

These doors stand out and grab your attention as you go along the street. The moulded recesses are highlighted in white, as is the central keystone.

As well as an attractive appearance, these doors are also slightly different than at first appears. Look closely and you will see not one but two small brass numbers, one either side of the door. Rather than leading to one house, these doors lead into a small passageway, off which are the 'front' doors of each house.

Look at the blue door building: No.14 has brown window frames, while No.16 has white ones. In keeping with the usual numbering scheme, this is the even side of the street. Some other houses along here have similar shared doors but none are as attractive as these.

Please do not disturb the residents when you visit, the doors are on private property but can be viewed from the pavement.
