Eric Morecambe was born Eric Bartholomew on the 14th of May 1926,in the Lancashire town of Morecambe from which he took his name.
Eric was one part of the very famous comedy duo of Morecambe and Wise.
The duo were very popular indeed,in fact,to most were the nation's favorite comedy duo.
Off screen Eric was a keen bird watcher hence the binoculars he sports in the statue.
The statue is also very popular,in the summer months there are sometimes queues waiting their turn to pose by their hero.
The statue was unveiled by the Queen on July 22nd.1999.
The comedy duo's signature tune was called "Bring me Sunshine",and the statue shows Eric in the classic pose he would have used at the end of the song.
