Memorials for World War II, known as the Great Patriotic War, are found everywhere in Russia. The larger cities have impressive and artistic monuments. The one at Yaroslavl is located in a pleasant park in the center of the city.
A polished marble base bears two sculpted stone walls, one depicting a soldier and the other a woman civilian. Set at angles they frame a central eternal flame. Flower wreaths were placed in front of each. Residents regularly leave floral tributes here and traditionally wedding parties visit the memorial to leave flowers.
