There is a sign about the window which reads as follows: The shields in the west window of the South Aisle commemorates the House of York who were the Founders and Benefactors of this Collegiate Church, and whose seat was Fotheringhay Castle. The picture of the sign details the different shields and their meanings. Richard III was born in Fotheringhay and his parents lie in the church at rest.
