This statue, called "The Coquistador" does not resemble a certain person but symbolizes the conquistadores as a whole - Spanish soldiers, explorers, and adventurers who took part in the gradual invasion and conquest of much of the Americas and Asia Pacific, bringing them under Spanish colonial rule between the 15th and 19th centuries.

The Spanish Colonization of the Americas was not really the proudest moment in human history but it happened and what we are today is a result of what happened then.

One of the results is apparently a still strong connection between the Kingdom of Spain and the City of San Antonio, recognized by the Spanish government with this gift to the people of San Antonio.


The statue is located in front of the Spanish Governor's Palace in downtown San Antonio.
