St. Louis the site of the 1904 Olympic Games is listed in space for Mediterranean Avenue. Francis Field on the campus of Washington University was the equivalent of the Olympic Stadiums of later Olympics. The Field was the site of the opening and closing ceremonies along with all athletic events and other sporting events. The adjacent Francis Gymnasium was the site of the indoor sporting events. (Swimming events took place in an outdoor pond which no longer exists)
