Death Valley has all the stats, hottest, driest, lowest but what is wonderful is the landscape that has been sculpted by the extreme weather and enclosed in mountains. During the summer it's a place to drive through, stopping briefly for pictures, but in the winter it's a great outdoor playground. There is even an old volcanic crater, Ubehebe Crater.

It is a microcosm of western US history from pioneers, gold rush travelers and prospectors, mining, railroads, and always stories, some of them true, of what these people all went through to survive Death Valley. The park rangers give wonderful talks and walks about the history and nature in the park.
