Banishead Waterfalls are not natural but were created when Banishead quarry ceased operation early last century and Torver Beck was diverted to flood the quarry, making a spectacular waterfall, the water level in the abandoned quarry maintains a fairly constant level as the water drains away through old working to eventually find it's way to Coniston Water. The falls have a single drop of about a hundred feet, and can be very impressive in winter and after periods of heavy rain.
A popular footpath runs along side the old quarry which is used for walkers making their way to and from the mountains of the Coniston range.
The width shown below is estimated to be 10 feet, this is the average width,as it can be much wider in winter.
