When I told hubby I was looking for a WPA project he mentioned the old armory in Columbia where he first did his national guard duties in the 50s. I only knew about the new armory out on the highway. This beautiful old building is tucked away just off 31E east of the bridge over the Duck River. The day I was there it was being used for a bake sale to raise funds for a teen project. It's pretty much used for community programs now days, but in its time it served the city well. The walls are really thick and you can tell even in the pictures how well built it is.
Project type: Government building (non-park)
Date built or created: completed in 1941
Location: Old Armory
City: Columbia, TN
Condition: Good upkeep with a little wear and tear
