Old Warden means 'Watcher' and the church's position overlooks views far and wide, watching the landscape. It is a pretty village with thatched cottages, old wells, the famous Shuttleworth Rural College and Old Warden Park.

Rt Hon. Robert Henley Lord Ongley placed many rich wood carvings inside the church which came from the private chapel of Anne of Cleves, fourth wife of Henry VIII. Sadly these were stolen in 1997 and work is underway to replace them with contemporary carvings.

We were lucky to find the church open and marvelled at its inside decor and huge monuments. The stained glass inside is absolutely magnificent.
