This has long been a favorite place for my family to launch our assorted boats, canoes and kayaks. Although you are launched into the Erie Canal, you have a choice of going East and staying in the Canal until you get to Albany, or West and ending up in the nearby Niagara River.
The launch is open from April 15 to October 15, dawn to dusk. Since the Canal does freeze over, only the ducks and geese seem to use it in the winter.
For local residents, the only fee is a current recreation department pass. For Non-residents, there is a $50 fee and permit required. This may be obtained from the NT Dept. of Youth and Recreation, 460 Wheatfield St., North Tonawanda, NY
