Splitrock Reservoir is a gem of a place. Nestled between the Stonybrook and Greenpond mountains, its shoreline is largely free of development with the exception of the dam at the south end.

At nearly 4 miles in length, Splitrock is large enough that your fellow paddlers are well spread out and you get a feeling of solitude that is rare in the NY/NJ metro area.

Outside the distant drone of automobiles and all too frequent roar of passing jets, there are few clues that you're smack in the middle of the most densely populated state in the US. It doesn't take too much imagination to picture you're paddling a remote Adirondack pond.

The reservoir was opened to the public for paddling and fishing in 2004 and the fishing is quite good. The reservoir has a population of smallmouth and largemouth bass and there may even be some trout mixed in.
Parking/put-in/launching information:
The launch is about a 75 yard carry from parking, down a steep hill. There is no boat ramp so don't bring a boat you can't carry.

Paddling conditions to be expected:
Flatwater. On a windy day it can be a poor choice, especially if the wind is from the north or south, as the wind whips down the nearly 4 mile length of lake.
