The Ironton-Russell bridge was built in 1922 as the first bridge over the Ohio River between Parkersburg, WV, and Cincinnati, OH. But, this cantilevered through truss bridge is structurally unsound and scheduled for replacement.

IRONTON-RUSSELL BRIDGE ACROSS THE OHIO RIVER

The Ironton-Russell Bridge is managed by the Ohio Department of Transportation. It was declared structurally unsound in 1990 and has been modified, but is still slated for replacements when funding is available. The bridge is plaqued by narrow travel lanes, a mesh grid surface, and nearly 90 degree angle approaches at both ends.
