Rothay Park is on the west of Ambleside with the Rothay river as the park's western boundary. Stock Ghyll is part of the park's northern boundary. A tarmac path runs through the middle which is trying to be reclassified as a cycleway. North of this is used as a football pitch with permanent goal posts. The southern area is open for dog walkers and has an enclosed children's playground. Nearby are picnic tables.
The park is Victorian, and set amongst some of the finest Lakeland fells. Loughrigg to west, Fairfield to north, Red Screes to east.
