Danville's Confederate Soldiers Monument is a 16-ton obelisk that sits on base of Virginia granite. The Monument stands 32-feet atop a six-foot artificial mound near the center of Danville's Green Hill Cemetery. It was dedicated September 3, 1878, and paid for with $2,000 raised by the Ladies Memorial Association.

The Monument inscription reads:

PATRIOTS!
"Know that these fell in the effort to establish just government and perpetuate Constitutional Liberty. Who thus die, will live in lofty example."

"The Died as men who nobly contend for the cause of truth an right, They softly lie an sweetly sleep."
