The sculpture of President George Washington was first carved of marble in 1788 by Jean-Antoine Houdon and stands in the Virginia State Capitol. This bronze casting was created in 2003 to commemorate the 150th anniversary Washington University in St. Louis. Washington University was also named after George Washington. The statue was dedicated May 7, 2004. The statue is located south of John M. Olin Library.
